Yahoo Over 55s Bushwalkers

Yahoo Camp at Gracetown Caravan Park 2014

There were 16 walkers that booked into the Gracetown caravan park.  We were in a mixture of caravans, camper trailers, tents and onsite units.   Happy hour in the camp kitchen at 5pm allowed us to enjoy a few drinks and nibbles, and to plan for the next day's walk.  The caravan park has a great kitchen and many of us BBQed our dinner following happy hour.

The walk on day 1 took us along the Ten Mile Brook walk, day 2 along part of the Cape to Cape (Gracetown beach to the Margaret River river mouth), and day 3 along the Trails to Tracks (Cowaramup to Margaret River).  The pictures below are from days 1 & 2.

Melbourne Cup Ladies

The first day of our camp walk coincided with Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday 4 November 2014.

We have a tradition of choosing the best dxressed lady !!

Melbourne Cup Gentlemen

Whilst the men do not look as "pretty" as the ladies, they definitely had that sauve look

The Best Dressed Lady

Whilst most of us discarded our fancy dress for the walk, Anne wore hers for the whole walk !!!

Assembling at Rotary Park at Margaret River - day 1

This picture is typical of a walk "start" where we are donning our backpacks at the carpark.  From the carpark, we headed east along the Ten Mile Brook walk path.

Thanks to Alana and Preston for arranging all three walks for Tues, Wednesday and Thursday.

The walk on Wednesday saw us walk part of the Cape to Cape walk which took us to the Ellen Brook Homestead which is very picturesque and full of history.

Weir and Fish Ladder

Just to the right of Judith, at the far end of the walkway, you can see part of the fish ladder built of rock to allow fish to swim upstream to spawn.

Fording the Creek

On our return journey, we took the "summer" route and we encountered the creek still flowing.  The cool water was not very deep, and very refreshing to "hot" feet.

Cape to Cape

This is typical of the Cape to Cape track between Gracetown and Ellen Brook.

Cape to Cape

There are numerous wildflowers along the Track, and many have been photographed.  Just south of Ellen Brook was an expansive display of Kangaroo Paw.

Ellen Brook

My apologies for the "dark" picture, but here are some of the Yahoo's enjoying morning tea in the shade at the Ellen Brook Homestead grounds

Ellen Brook Homestead

Looking up the hill from morning tea under the trees beside Ellen Brook, and towards the old homestead.

Ellen Brook

Standing on the other side of the homestead looking back down the hill.   The original family arrived here in the 1800's.

Ellen Brook Cave

This walkway leads to "the cave".  Ellen Brook appears to emerge out of this limestone cave

Here is a slightly better view of the cave

Dinner at Swings Restaurant Wed night

Another "dark" picture.  The restaurant accommodated all 16 walkers around the table for dinner.

 Dinner at Swings Restaurant

Obviously, we are waiting for our dinners to arrive!!  It was a fun night, with good ffood,  good wines, good company

 A Wedding Anniversary

Robin and Eileen celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary.
